On Saturday, 24 soldiers were martyred in an encounter between security forces and Naxalites in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
The martyrs include 8 from DRG, 6 from STF, 9 from Cobra Battalion, and one from Bastar Battalion. But it is important to know how this attack was so easy for the Naxalites. Here we are telling you how the Naxalites attacked the security forces by laying a trap.
Security forces trapped in ‘U-Type’ attack
The security forces had input that a top commander of the Naxalites was present in the area, so the operation was carried out. But the Naxalites were already prepared and they had laid a ‘U-shape’ trap for the soldiers. About 2000 personnel of CRPF’s Cobra commandos, Bastar Battalion, DRG, and STF had gone out on separate operations over the last two days near Jonaguda in Silager’s jungle.
On Saturday morning, when the forces received information that there is a mob of Naxalites near Jonaguda, they were alerted. Apart from this, there was some movement in the satellite pictures here earlier as well.
In such a situation, when this information was received by the security forces they started to move towards Jonaguda.
Experts say that one area of Jonaguda falls under the guerrilla war zone. In this zone, the security forces only move in small batches. But since all the forces were getting input about the presence of Naxalites, a large number of troops continued to arrive here in batch after batch.
Meanwhile, the Naxalites were sitting in a U-shaped ambush and were waiting for the security forces. As the security forces enter the area in large numbers, they were caught in the ambush. Naxalites started firing indiscriminately. The encounter lasted for about 5 hours. The Naxalites were in the upper slopes of the hills and were keeping an eye on the movement of entry of the security forces.
