During the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in India, things have gone from bad to worse. However, this time no state is in the mood to take the virus lightly. The Center has also entrusted the right to impose lockdown on the states.
Some states including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh had imposed a one-week lockdown which was later extended.
But things are now improving. During the second wave, the coronavirus infection rate in many states, including Delhi, has come down to five percent.
It is two percent in Delhi and Jharkhand and less than one percent in the country’s largest state Uttar Pradesh by population. The transition rate in nine states is between five and 10 percent.
The situation in the country is improving now. The country also has the lowest number of new cases after one and a half months. But the lockdown has been to extended again by many states. Among these, Delhi and Kerala are the latest addition.
Lockdown extended in Delhi on Saturday night
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has once again extended the lockdown in Delhi.
The DDMA said that the curfew on the movement of people has been extended till 5 am on June 7, excluding the activities of essential commodities.
The national capital Delhi had restrictions till May 31 and a decision was taken to give exemption in two cases in the DDMA meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday.
After the meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave a digital press talk and informed that DDMA has decided to open industrial and construction activities for a week from five o’clock on Monday morning. In all other cases, the ban will continue as before.
The Kerala government on Saturday extended the earlier lockdown in the state till 9 June.
“Triple lockdown has been to withdrawn in Malappuram district. The statewide lockdown has been to extended till June 9,” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
