Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not playing ODI and Test series respectively in India’s.
upcoming tour of South Africa, speculations of a rift in Team India are rife.
In effect, Virat Kohli will not play under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and Rohit Sharma will not play under Virat Kohli’s. Kohli is Team India’s Test captain, while Sharma leads the Men in Blue in the 50-over format.
Recent reports have suggested that India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli will be missing the
One Day Internationals (ODI) in South Africa.
as he has asked the BCCI for a brief break to spend sometime with his family.
It is to be note that this is first series that Team India play after Rohit Sharma being. appoint as the new full-time ODI skipper, replacing Kohli.
On the other hand Sharma has sustained a hamstring injury and will be missing out the three-match Test series in South Africa where the team is led by Captain Kohli.
Two captains not playing under eachother is fueling rumours of divide in team and has not gone unnoticed by several cricket watchers.
Former Indian skipper Mohammas Azharuddin raised questions over Kohli’s break. He said the timing of Virat for asking for a break is “just substantiating speculation about the rift”.
He wrote on Twitter, “Virat Kohli has informed that he’s not available for the ODI series & Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the upcoming test. There is no harm in taking a break but the timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation about the rift. Neither will be giving up the other form of cricket.”
Indian is set to begin their South Africa tour on December 26 with three-match test series followed by threeODIs that is to take place in the mid-January.
