Rohit Sharma’s record of leading Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL titles establishes him as the undisputed leader in T20 cricket. Rohit is the longest-serving MI captain and the second-longest for any IPL franchise after MS Dhoni. He was signed by MI during the 2011 mega auction (January 8) for 9.2 crore, which now appears to be a steal.
The 35-year-old is also MI’s highest run-scorer in IPL history with 4709 runs in 182 matches, with a high score of 109*. During his MI career, he has bagged a century and 32 fifties. On Sunday, the swashbuckling batter completed 12 years with MI and when asked about his journey so far, he stated that it has been a rather emotional time for him.
“I can’t believe I’ve been with the Mumbai Indians for 12 years. It’s been a thrilling and emotional journey for me. We’ve accomplished so much together with veterans, newcomers, and our Paltan “, he explained.
“Mumbai Indians is my family, and I want to thank my teammates, fans, and management for their support. I’m looking forward to making more memories and spreading smiles for our Paltan “, he went on to say.
Rohit, who is currently captaining India in their upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, will captain MI in the IPL 2023. He will be hoping to be in top form and lead MI to victory, especially with the upcoming ODI Cricket World Cup in 2023. He also won two Champions League T20 trophies during his glittering career with MI. He is also their most capped player, with the most fours, 50+ scores, and Man of the Match awards. Rohit also has the second-most wins as captain in the IPL, with 81 victories in 143 games.
