    Pune city marks its lowest January day since 2017 at 7.4 degrees Celsius

    According to Tuesday’s temperature readings, Pune city was cooler than the hill towns of Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar due to the cold wave that was affecting the weather in Maharashtra.

    On Tuesday, Shivajinagar’s minimum temperature dropped to 7.4 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest day of the season in Pune. According to temperature records maintained by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this was the coldest January day in Pune in six years.

    According to IMD statistics, Pune experienced its coldest January days during the past ten years in 2011 (5.3 degrees Celsius), 2012 (6.6 degrees Celsius), and 2015 (7 degrees Celsius).

    In general, similar cold conditions were reported from much of Pune district, where the minimum temperatures were 7.1 degrees Celsius in Haveli, 7.3 degrees Celsius in Pashan, 7.4 degrees Celsius in Malin, 8.3 degrees Celsius in Baramati, 8.7 degrees Celsius in Shirur, and 9.5 degrees Celsius in Daund. In fact, on Tuesday, Pune city was cooler than two well-known hill resorts in Maharashtra, Lonavala (14.6 degrees Celsius) and Mahabaleshwar (12.1 degrees Celsius).
