A woman was shot for consuming alcohol on the premises of the Dukhniwaran Sahib Gurdwara complex in Patiala, Punjab. She was carried to the hospital, but she was proclaimed dead.
On Sunday evening, Parminder Kaur was drinking near the sarovar (holy pond) when a gurdwara attendant noticed her.
Sagar Malhotra, the sewadar (attendant), tried to stop her, but the two got into a dispute. He then led her to the gurdwara manager’s office, where another sewadar shot her. Parminder Kaur was transported to the hospital but died en route.
Sagar Malhotra was also hurt in the shooting and is being treated at the Rajendra hospital in Patiala. Parminder Kaur’s body was taken to Rajendra Hospital for a post-mortem examination by police.
According to police, Parminder Kaur lived in Gurubaksh colony and was unmarried. An official statement from police is still awaited.
