‘Oppenheimer’ star Cillian Murphy reveals he read Bhagwad Gita to prepare for film

    Cillian Murphy

CILLIAN Murphy is famous for portraying Thomas Shelby in the British television series Peaky Blinders. He is a major staple in Christopher Nolan’s films and has worked with the director on blockbuster projects such as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, InceptionThe Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk

As he prepped to get ready to play theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who is regarded as one of the fathers of the atom bomb, Cillian took inspiration from Gita. The actor said that it was what motivated him.

    CILLIAN Murphy ON GITA

“I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation, and I thought it was an absolutely beautiful text, very inspiring. Oppenheimer probably needed it and benefited greatly from it throughout his life. I believe it was a consolation for him.

Cillian lightly added, “Well don’t grill me on it! I just found it very beautiful.”For the unversed, Oppenheimer was a student of Sanskrit

The Pulitzer Prize–winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin served as the inspiration for Christopher Nolan’s movie. Despite playing a supporting role in these movies, Murphy has won over the audience’s admiration with his acting skills and made a lasting impression on the movies he’s in.

On the Oppenheimer, Murphy will work with Nolan for the sixth time, as the movie’s titular scientist.

He also said that the holy book had given him the comfort he had sorely needed to deal with the knowledge that he had given man the ability to use a weapon of mass devastation and that it was now too late to stop it.

Thus, to understand the man better and step into his shoes, Cillian Murphy read the Bhagavad Gita as well.
