3 bills to replace IPC, CrPC, Indian Evidence Act: Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on Friday that the act of sedition will be entirely removed in a new legislative proposal presented in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing the principle that “every individual holds the right to express their opinions in a democratic setup.” This legislation aims to replace the current Indian Penal Code (IPC).

However, Section 150 of the new Bill recommends imprisonment for life, or imprisonment up to seven years for those who “excites or attempts to excite, secession or armed rebellion or subversive activities, or encourages feelings of separatist activities or endangers sovereignty or unity and integrity of India, or indulges in or commits any such act”.

“The Britishers had made a rule on sedition to save their administration. This government has taken a historic decision to completely repeal the sedition law. Yaha loktantra hai, sabko bolne ka adhikar hai (this is a democracy where everyone has the right to speak). Said by Shah, while introducing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bill.
