    On August 22, before embarking on a four-day trip to South Africa and Greece, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) has transformed into a platform for addressing the challenges encountered by the Global South.

    While staying in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24 for the BRICS summit, Mr. Modi is scheduled to participate in the Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue, in addition to conducting several bilateral meetings.

    “BRICS actively advances cooperation across sectors. It’s now a forum for Global South’s vital concerns and reform discussions,” he said pre-departure.

    The Prime Minister is anticipated to arrive at Waterkloof Air Force Base around 1:45 p.m., aligned with South African Standard Time (3.5 hours behind Indian Standard Time).

    Following his arrival, he will participate in the Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue and the Leaders’ Retreat on the upcoming Tuesday.

    The 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg signifies the coalition’s first in-person assembly since 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted it.

    The meeting in Johannesburg bears extra importance as it will deliberate on the potential enlargement of the alliance to encompass nations like Iran, Bangladesh, and various other developing economies.

    “I eagerly anticipate engaging with several guest countries who have been invited to partake in this event,” stated Mr. Modi. Following the Johannesburg summit, he will travel to Athens upon the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
