On Wednesday night, a traffic constable, aged 33, from the Pune City police force sustained a severe head injury when, according to the police, he was reportedly struck on the head with a cement block by an active-duty Army jawan. The jawan has been charged with attempted murder.
Officials said that the traffic constable had issued a challan to the 25-year-old Army jawan around one-and-a-half months ago for riding triple seat on a bike and the jawan held a grudge against him.
The traffic constable in question has been identified by the police as Ramesh Dhaware, and he is presently assigned to the Faraskhana traffic division within the Pune city traffic control branch. As per law enforcement, the Army soldier allegedly involved in the incident is Vaibhav Sambhaji Mangute, who is currently serving with an Army unit in Jodhpur. Following the assault, which occurred at Budhwar Chowk around 8 pm on Wednesday, Mangute was apprehended.

Army Jawan Assaults Traffic Constable with Cement Block in Alleged Retaliation
“Around one-and-a-half months ago, constable Dhaware had issued a challan to Mangute for riding triple seat on a bike. The two had had an argument at the time. Our probe suggests that Mangute is currently posted in Jodhpur. He came on leave to Pune recently. On Wednesday night when Dhaware was on duty at Budhwar Chowk, Mangute came from behind him and attacked him on the head with a cement block,” said Senior Inspector Dadasaheb Chudappa, in-charge of Faraskhana police station.
“Dhaware was initially rushed to a nearby private hospital and from there he has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of another private hospital, where he remains unconscious and in critical condition. We have apprehended Mangute,” Chudappa added.
Mangute originates from Mangrul village situated in the Sillod taluka of Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. He is facing charges under the Indian Penal Code, including sections 307 (attempted murder), 332 (inflicting harm to obstruct a public servant from performing their duties), and 353 (using force or violence to hinder a public servant from fulfilling their responsibilities).
