In Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Saturday that Israel’s military operations against Hamas would persist for “many more months.” This statement comes in response to ongoing international calls for a cease-fire amid increasing civilian casualties, hunger, and large-scale displacement in Gaza.

Netanyahu expressed gratitude to the Biden administration for its ongoing support, including the approval of a new emergency weapons sale (the second this month) and preventing a U.N. Security Council resolution advocating for an immediate cease-fire. Israel contends that halting the conflict at this point would signify a victory for Hamas. The Biden administration shares this perspective but concurrently urges Israel to take additional measures to minimize harm to Palestinian civilians.
