    Breakthrough Junior Challenge Winner: Sia Godika’s ‘Yamanaka Factors’

    Sia Godika, a 17-year-old from Bengaluru, emerged victorious in the 2023 Challenge, a science-video contest, with her entry titled ‘Yamanaka Factors’. According to The Times of India, the high school senior produced a video titled ‘Yamanaka Factors’, depicting herself as an elderly woman who regressed in age to youthfulness. The video highlights the groundbreaking cellular reprogramming research conducted by Nobel laureate Shinya Yamanaka.

    Recognition and Rewards for Sia Godika’s Achievement

    The Breakthrough Junior Challenge, boasting a substantial prize pool of $400,000 (approximately Rs 3.31 crore), awarded Sia with a $250,000 college scholarship, allocated $50,000 to her teacher as part of the award, and granted $100,000 to her school, Neev Academy.

    The science-oriented video competition was founded by a group including Google co-founder Sergey Brin, US entrepreneur Anne Wojcicki, Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner and his wife Julia, and Mark Zuckerberg along with his wife Priscilla Chan. Its aim is to foster innovative thinking and communication skills while promoting fundamental principles of science, physics, and mathematics in daily life.
