The curfew, which had been imposed in Banbhoolpura after the outbreak of violence. Curfew has now been lifted from the outskirts of the town. The administration has declared a relaxation in the curfew for a few hours in Banbhoolpura on Thursday. Marking seven days since it was enforced due to the unrest following the demolition of an alleged “illegal” madrasa. As per the directive issued by Nainital District Magistrate Vandana Singh, the curfew will be eased from 9 am to 4 pm specifically in the Gaujajali, Railway Bazar, and FCI godown areas.

In the remaining parts of Banbhoolpura, the relaxation will be in effect for a two-hour period, from 9 am to 11 am. The violence erupted on February 8 when the demolition of an unlawfully constructed madrassa took place in the Banbhoolpura area. Local residents engaged in the unrest by throwing stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police officers. This resulted in many police personnel seeking shelter at a police station, which the mob subsequently set on fire.
During the violent episode, six rioters lost their lives, and over a hundred individuals, including police personnel and members of the media, sustained injuries, as reported by the police.The curfew imposed in Banbhoolpura after the violence was earlier lifted from the outer areas of the town.
