CBSE stated that there are no immediate plans to introduce OBE

Regarding the implementation of Open Book Exams (OBE), the CBSE clarified that it plans to conduct a comprehensive study within its affiliated schools to assess the feasibility of OBE within the Indian educational framework. This initiative aligns with recommendations in the National Curriculum Framework for Secondary Education (NCF-SE). Contrary to media reports, the CBSE stated that there are no immediate plans to introduce OBE in selected schools as part of a pilot run.

Instead, the Board aims to experiment with OBE and evaluate its feasibility in the Indian context. Joseph Emmanuel, the Director of Academics at CBSE. Emphasized the importance of conducting a study to understand the feasibility of assessment reforms like OBE based on recommendations in NEP-2020 and NCF-SE 2023. He mentioned that the study would be conducted in select CBSE schools to experiment and examine the viability of OBE. Additionally, Emmanuel highlighted the introduction of case-based questions in board exam papers, stating that students can answer these questions only if they have a conceptual understanding.
