On Tuesday near Srinagar, a tragic incident occurred as a boat overturned in the Jhelum River, resulting in the loss of four lives and leaving three individuals unaccounted for. Twelve people have been successfully rescued from the river. The passengers primarily consisted of school children along with a small number of locals.
Jhelum River Incident Prompts SDRF Search Operations
The incident took place near Batwara district of Srinagar. A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed to conduct search operations, said Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management officials. Heavy rains have been lashing the Kashmir Valley for the last 72 hours leading to the Jehlum River flowing close to the danger mark.
Earlier, Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district received a fresh spell of snowfall on Tuesday evening. The roofs of the tourist resorts and streets were covered under a layer of snow in Sonamarg. Meanwhile, rain lashed parts of Kishtwar district and nearby areas on Tuesday.
