The floods in Assam have claimed the lives of 26 people so far. The situation remains critical, affecting more than 1.61 lakh individuals across 15 districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the most recent casualty occurred in Hailakandi district on Tuesday, when a person drowned in floodwaters. Karimganj district is severely affected, with over 1.52 lakh people affected, including 41,711 children.
The flooding has impacted 225 villages under the Nilambazar, RK Nagar, Karimganj, and Badarpur revenue circles. Currently, 22,464 flood-affected individuals seek shelter in relief camps and distribution centers set up by the district administration.

Assam Floods: Measures to Safeguard Wildlife in Kaziranga
The floodwaters have submerged 470 villages across 28 revenue circles in the 15 flood-hit districts, inundating 1378.64 hectares of crop area in 11 districts. Additionally, 93,895 domestic animals in these districts have been affected by the floods.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a meeting on June 15 with civil and police administrations, along with Kaziranga authorities, to discuss measures to protect wildlife, particularly in Kaziranga National Park, during the flood season. The Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to implement all necessary steps and enhance the response system to ensure animal safety.
During the meeting, it was announced that three new commando battalions had been deployed in Kaziranga to prevent accidents involving animals crossing the national highway and to deter poachers from exploiting the flood situation. Additionally, around 600 personnel from a new forest battalion will be assigned to Kaziranga National Park throughout the flood season to bolster protective measures.
