    Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has pledged to join the midnight protest over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In a late-night post on X, Ray expressed his intention to participate, stating, “I have a daughter and a young granddaughter, just like countless Bengali families. We must stand up against this cruelty towards women. Let’s unite and resist together, no matter the cost.”

    When a user on X suggested that the senior leader might be expelled from the Trinamool Congress for protesting against his own government, he replied, “Don’t worry about my fate. I carry the blood of a freedom fighter in my veins and am not concerned.”

    He also stated, “Tomorrow, I will join the protesters because I have a daughter and a young granddaughter, like many Bengali families. We must confront this issue. Enough is enough when it comes to cruelty against women. Let’s stand together, no matter what.”

    Kolkata to Hold Midnight Protest Against Doctor’s Rape-Murder

    The 75-year-old, who has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2011. Previously served as Deputy Leader of the Trinamool Congress in the Upper House, is set to join the protest. Women across Kolkata and other parts of Bengal are preparing for a large-scale protest late tonight in response to the rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Scheduled to start at 11:55 pm, the demonstration has been dubbed “For Women’s Independence on the Midnight of Independence.”

    Social media is abuzz with posters detailing protest locations. Which are being updated as more participants from the state’s suburbs join in. Men are also mobilizing in significant numbers to show their support. Prominent figures, including actors Swastika Mukherjee and Churni Ganguly, and filmmaker Pratim D Gupta, have urged the public to attend the midnight rally at the most convenient locations.

    Kolkata is reeling from the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor. Who was found dead in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning. The victim, who was on night duty, had sustained severe injuries across her eyes, face, mouth, neck, limbs, and private areas. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer who was a frequent presence at the hospital, has been arrested in connection with the crime.

    The Calcutta High Court has ordered the case to be handed over to the CBI. Citing serious shortcomings in the hospital’s handling of the investigation and concerns about potential evidence tampering. The court emphasized that no significant progress had been made in the investigation after five days. Raising concerns about possible destruction of evidence.
