MEA Slams Trudeau: ‘Interference, Hostility Towards India’

The Government of India has strongly rejected Canada’s recent diplomatic allegations, labeling them as “preposterous imputations.” In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) dismissed claims that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are “persons of interest” in an ongoing investigation in Canada. The MEA attributed these accusations to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s political agenda, aimed at gaining support from certain voter groups.

India firmly responded to Canada’s allegations that Indian officials were involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Indian government has unequivocally denied these claims and demanded evidence to support such serious accusations. Despite numerous requests, Canada has yet to provide any proof to substantiate its allegations, which India views as part of a broader smear campaign.

The MEA also criticized Trudeau’s history of hostility towards India, pointing to his 2018 visit, which many saw as an attempt to appease a specific vote bank. The statement highlighted that his government has supported individuals with extremist and separatist views against India. Trudeau’s interference in Indian internal affairs, particularly during the December 2020 protests, further strained bilateral relations.

Additionally, India condemned Trudeau’s government for allowing extremists in Canada to harass Indian diplomats under the guise of free speech. India dismissed the allegations against High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma as “ludicrous.” India reaffirmed its right to take further diplomatic measures in response to these accusations, emphasizing the principle of reciprocity in diplomatic representation.
