    Australia : Senator interrupts parliament by heckling King Charles

    On Monday, an independent senator disrupted King Charles’s reception in parliament during his visit, shouting anti-colonial statements such as “you are not my king” before being removed by security. Senator Lidia Thorpe, a vocal critic of the monarchy and a strong advocate for Indigenous rights, declared, “You are not my king. You committed genocide against our people. Return our land Australia , return what you took from us – our bones, skulls, babies, and people.” Her remarks quickly spread across social media.

    Australia : Indigenous Senator Lidia Thorpe Confronts King Charles

    As King Charles concluded his speech during the reception, Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe, a guest at the event, walked up from the aisle and shouted at the monarch, who was seated just a few metres away, “This is not your land. You are not my king. Draped in a fur cloak, Thorpe accused, “You destroyed our land. Give us a treaty. We want a treaty in this country. You are a genocidalist. As security escorted her out, she continued to shout, “This is not your land. You are not my king.”

    King Charles Engages with PM Albanese as Security Intervenes

    As security personnel moved to prevent Thorpe from reaching King Charles, the monarch pulled Prime Minister Anthony Albanese aside for a discussion on the hall’s podium, ABC News reported. This place was once a British colony for over 100 years and thousands of Aboriginal Australians were killed or displaced during that time. While the country gained de facto independence in 1901, it is not yet a full-fledged republic and remains a constitutional monarchy. King Charles is the current head of state.
