Delhi CaDelhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal revealed that the franchise tried hard to retain Rishabh Pant before the IPL mega auction. However, differing views on team management caused his departure. The Capitals decided not to retain him. Pant was then acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history.

“It was about differing philosophies on how he saw the franchise operating versus our approach as owners. That’s what ultimately led to his exit,” Jindal told ESPNCricinfo.

“Differing Philosophies Led to Rishabh Pant’s Departure,” Says Parth Jindal

“Money was never a factor for Rishabh, nor for us. It was more about the fact that the three of us—Kiran Grandhi, Rishabh, and I—were simply on different wavelengths.”“In the end, he made the decision. We did everything we could, but he eventually felt it was time to move on,” Jindal added.

When asked about the points of disagreement, Jindal explained, “It was about how the franchise should be run, the decision-making processes, and mutual expectations. There were certain things he expected from us, and we had our own expectations. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find common ground.”Jindal also acknowledged a disconnect between the franchise’s leadership expectations and Pant’s long-term goal of captaining the Indian team.

“We provided him with feedback on leadership and suggested areas for improvement. While we respected his ambitions and understood where he wanted to go, our vision didn’t fully align with his,” Jindal added.

“He has made it very clear that his ultimate dream is to captain India, and that journey begins with leading an IPL team,” Jindal remarked. He admitted that once the franchise chose not to retain Pant, reacquiring him at the auction became nearly impossible.

“As soon as we didn’t retain him, I knew we had lost him. We tried using the right-to-match option at ₹20.25 crore, but the bidding quickly escalated beyond our reach. While we were willing to go up to ₹22-23 crore, the price went far beyond that,” Jindal explained.
