    World Economic Forum President Borge Brende highlighted key perspectives on the potential effects of US trade tariffs as Donald Trump begins his second term as president. In an exclusive interview with Rahul Kanwal, News Director of India Today and Aajtak, during the 2025 World Economic Forum in Davos, Brende noted that the new trade tariffs introduced by the Trump administration might influence the global economy. However, he also emphasized that global trade is expected to grow despite these challenges.

    In the interview, Brende discussed the state of the current geopolitical landscape, describing it as “fragmented” and heavily influenced by the growing rivalry between the US and China, which is shaping the global agenda. “This year’s geopolitical environment for Davos is the most complex in decades,” he stated. He noted that this competition, coupled with escalating conflicts and reduced international cooperation, has led to what he termed a “geopolitical recession.”

    What lies ahead at WEF 2025 ?

    Brende also highlighted the need to revive global growth amid this challenging environment. “There is a lot of realism related to the economic outlook,” he said, adding that participants in Davos are focusing on ways to achieve trend growth of 4% in the coming years. He indicated that the focus at the WEF 2025 will be achieving greater cooperation and boosting global growth, even in an era of growing protectionism.
