    Nashville School Shooting: 17-Year-Old Shoots Student and Himself at Nashville School in the US

    On Wednesday, a teenage boy opened fire at a Tennessee high school, killing one student and injuring another. The incident, a Nashville School Shooting, ended with the shooter taking his own life, according to police.

    In a social media statement, Nashville police said a 17-year-old male student fired multiple shots with a pistol in the Antioch High School cafeteria. A 16-year-old girl was killed, and a 17-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet, injuring his arm.

    Police identified Solomon Henderson as the shooter and Josselin Corea Escalante as the victim. Authorities are investigating the motive. Antioch High School, with around 2,000 students, is southeast of Nashville. This incident follows several school shootings in the U.S., nearly two years after the Nashville Christian school shooting that killed three students and three staff members.

    “My heart breaks for these families facing unimaginable loss,” said Adrienne Battle, Metro Nashville Public Schools Director, in a press conference, according to the Tennessean. Battle added that Antioch High School has safety measures, including a secured entrance, resource officers, and weapon-detection cameras. The K-12 School Shooting Database, founded by David Riedman, recorded 330 school shootings in the U.S. last year, tracking incidents since 1966.
