Australia carried on their multi-format series by facing Sri Lanka in the second Test. Following their dominant win by an innings and 242 runs in the first Test, the two teams clashed again at the Galle International Stadium, starting on Thursday, February 6, where Cooper Connolly debut added further excitement to the series.

Cooper Connolly Joins Australia’s Test Debut Streak in Second Test Against Sri Lanka
At the start of the second Test, Australia announced 21-year-old batting all-rounder Cooper Connolly as their latest Test debutant, making him the fourth consecutive player to debut in as many matches.
Sam Konstas debuted in the Boxing Day Test against India, followed by Beau Webster in the New Year’s Test at the SCG and Josh Inglis in the first Test against Sri Lanka. Connolly’s debut continued this streak for Australia.

Cooper Connolly’s: A Step Towards Australia’s Transitional Phase
Connolly was included in the playing XI, taking the place of Todd Murphy. Although he has yet to claim a wicket in four first-class matches, the young player offers a left-arm orthodox option alongside Matthew Kuhnemann. Additionally, his presence strengthens Australia’s batting lineup. His inclusion may also signal that Australia is entering a transitional phase, marking a significant moment in Cooper Connolly debut.
Ahead of the second Test, Australia captain Steve Smith praised Cooper Connolly’s skills and expressed confidence in the young bowler. He highlighted Connolly’s impressive performance in the nets, noting his consistency in both the Dubai pre-Test camp and the current nets.
