Ranveer Allahbadia row escalates as police charge Samay Raina

The Maharashtra Cyber Department has reportedly registered an FIR against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, and other guests of the YouTube show India’s Got Latent for allegedly creating and broadcasting obscene content. The action was taken on Tuesday following significant public outrage over the show’s content.

The FIR in Mumbai comes a day after  the Assam Police filed a case against Ranveer Allahbadia over his controversial remarks.

The cyber department is also issuing summonses to about 30 guests who have participated in the show from the first episode till now, news agency PTI reported, citing a police official.

The cyber cell lodged the suo moto (on its own) FIR after Ranveer Allahbadia’s distasteful comments on the show triggered a storm, the official said.

Ranveer Allahbadia Row – Latest Updates: The police official stated that the Cyber Department has registered the case under relevant sections of the IT Act and has ordered the removal of all 18 episodes of the comedy show. During its investigation, the Cyber Department discovered that participants and other individuals associated with the show, including guests, had used “vulgar and obscene” language in the programme, the PTI report added.

The authorities have shortlisted individuals, including the show’s judges and guests, he said. After Allahbadia made the comments, multiple people filed complaints in Mumbai, urging action against him and other well-known social media figures linked to the show, such as Apoorva Mukhija and Samay Raina, for allegedly using “abusive language.”

Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija, along with Ranveer Allahbadia, appeared in one of the episodes of Samay Raina’s show.
