President Murmu hosts Qatar Amir Visit at Rashtrapati Bhavan to strengthen ties

President Droupadi Murmu extended a warm welcome to Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The Qatar Amir Visit marks the Qatari leader’s second state visit to India, underscoring the growing bilateral ties between the two nations. President Murmu also hosted a banquet in his honour, attended by the Vice President, Prime Minister, and other dignitaries from both India and Qatar.

President Murmu, while welcoming Amir Al Thani, highlighted the longstanding historical ties between India and Qatar, emphasizing their rich cultural and trade connections spanning centuries. She stressed the strong partnership between the two nations in key areas such as trade, investment, food security, healthcare, culture, and energy. Additionally, she emphasized the need for both countries to capitalize on their strengths to foster greater collaboration in innovation, technology, and startups.

India-Qatar: Strengthening Trade and Energy Ties

During the Qatar Amir Visit, President Murmu emphasized the strong strategic partnership between India and Qatar, stating that their relationship goes beyond diplomacy and politics. She highlighted the $14 billion bilateral trade in the past year and welcomed increased investments from Qatari entities, expressing confidence in India’s market potential. She also praised the Indian community in Qatar for serving as a vital bridge between the two nations and appreciated Qatar’s hospitality toward them.

Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening ties, particularly in the energy sector. He acknowledged key trade and investment agreements and stressed the importance of renewable energy collaboration. He expressed confidence in India’s continued economic growth and reiterated Qatar’s dedication to providing a stable and secure energy supply.

President Murmu hoped Amir Al Thani’s visit would strengthen their longstanding ties. At the banquet, she highlighted cultural connections through shared traditions, art, music, and cuisine, mentioning favorites like biryani and ‘kadak chai.’

The visit elevated India-Qatar ties to a strategic partnership, with agreements enhancing cooperation across sectors. A revised deal on double taxation and fiscal evasion was also signed. President Murmu welcomed Amir Al Thani before the historic Rampurva Bull, symbolizing deep-rooted ties. The banquet, attended by top leaders, marked a key moment in bilateral relations.
