Reports suggest that the majority of airports in the United States lack air traffic control towers, with only those handling commercial traffic having such facilities.
Jeff Guzzetti, a former NTSB investigator, stated that in airspaces without control towers, pilots rely on a designated radio frequency to communicate their landings and takeoffs. Guzzetti, as quoted by the Associated Press (AP), stated that all pilots should communicate on a common traffic advisory frequency and are responsible for maintaining awareness to prevent collisions. Each pilot must actively see and avoid other aircraft to ensure safety.
