    Amid rising tensions, Pakistan has claimed it possesses “credible intelligence” indicating that India might initiate military action within the next 24 to 36 hours. The alert has heightened regional unease and triggered diplomatic outreach, with UN Chief António Guterres contacting Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to defuse tensions.

    The situation follows a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in 26 casualties, most of them tourists. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation.

    UN Steps In as Pakistan and PM Shehbaz Sharif Allege Imminent Indian Strike Over Pahalgam Attack

    In response to the escalating situation, UN Secretary-General António Guterres held separate phone conversations with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday. During these discussions, he strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The UN chief emphasized the importance of restraint and dialogue to ease tensions. His outreach reflects international concern over potential conflict in the region.

    In what could be seen as a bid to divert attention from Pakistan’s failure to curb terrorism, federal minister for information and broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, wrote on X, “Pakistan has credible intelligence that India intends to carry out military action against Pakistan in the next 24-36 hours on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations of involvement in the Pahalgam incident.”
