A man was injured in a bear attack in a village in Gujarat, prompting forest officials to initiate a search.

The Zoz village in the Chhotaudepur district has witnessed four bear attacks in the last week.

On Thursday, the Chhotaudepur forest department in Gujarat initiated a search for a sloth bear that attacked a 45-year-old man early in the morning. The incident occurred when the man ventured near the forest area to pluck mauve flowers.

Forest and Police Officials Respond to Bear Attack in Chhotaudepur Village

The district forest team, accompanied by police officials, arrived in Zoz village in the Chhotaudepur taluka. Rasik Nayak, who sustained severe injuries to his face and head, was rushed by locals to the Chhotaudepur referral hospital and later transferred to SSG Hospital in Vadodara for further treatment.

Forest officials said the attack occurred around 6 am as Nayak had ventured into the area about 200 metres from the forest. According to them, another woman was also injured while trying to escape from the area as the animal charged towards her before disappearing into the forest.

Officials Launch Search for Sloth Bear Following Multiple Attacks in Gujarat Village

“The locals quickly came to the aid of Nayak and the woman, using sticks to drive the bear back into the forest. A search has been initiated to capture the animal, as it has been responsible for four attacks in the past week, leading to heightened fear in the area,” said a forest department official.
