The Khans have shaped Bollywood super stardom for the past three decades. Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir have consistently ruled the box office since the early 90s. However, during their rise, another actor was seen as an even bigger prospect.
Yet, within a few years, his career plummeted so drastically that he ended up participating in reality shows, nearly facing bankruptcy.

Rahul Roy made his debut in Hindi films in 1990 with the unexpected hit, Aashiqui. He and the film’s female lead, Anu Aggarwal, became overnight sensations. The film’s success made him a household name, followed by a series of hits like Pyaar Ka Saaya and Junoon.
At just 26, Rahul was seen as the next big star, even ahead of Salman and Aamir, with Shah Rukh still in his early days in the industry. However, this initial success didn’t last long.
Decline of Rahul Roy’s career
In the mid-90s, many of Rahul Roy’s signed films were canceled, and he turned down other projects that later became major box-office hits. He reportedly rejected Yash Chopra’s Darr, which made Shah Rukh Khan a star. Meanwhile, his films started to fail at the box office.
After Junoon in 1992, Rahul faced 15 consecutive flops over the next nine years. His last lead role was in the 2001 film Afsana Dilwalon Ka. Taking a break, he returned to acting in 2006 but delivered five more failures. By 2010, he shifted to supporting roles and even appeared in the first season of Bigg Boss. Despite winning the show, his fame and popularity never returned.
Rahul Roy’s health struggle
In 2020, Rahul Roy suffered a stroke followed by a heart attack, which led to his hospitalization. He was partially paralyzed for some time and required costly medical treatments. In a 2023 interview with Bollywood Hungama, he shared that he couldn’t afford his medical bills, and it was his former co-star Salman Khan who helped him.
Rahul made his return to films in 2023, both as an actor and producer. He still resides in Mumbai and was last seen in a supporting role in Kanu Behl’s Agra in 2023.
