The trio of actors, accompanied by well-known figures Andrew Scott and Tom Hardy, have contributed their voices to the fresh interpretation, which debuted on Audible’s platform on Thursday. Audible specializes in creating audio entertainment content.
The book, released in 1949, unfolds in Airstrip One, a region within the superstate Oceania, amidst a backdrop of endless warfare, pervasive government monitoring, and manipulation of the public.
The region is governed by a political structure known as English Socialism, overseen by a privileged Inner Party elite, which suppresses individualism and independent thought by labeling them as ‘thought crimes’.
Garfield takes the helm in the adaptation as Winston, the main character, while Erivo portrays Winston’s lover Julia. Scott embodies the enigmatic and perilous figure of O’Brien, and Hardy brings to life the infamous Big Brother.
