    The body of one worker was retrieved from the coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, where nine workers were trapped due to flooding in the Assam Coal Mine Accident. Rescue operations are ongoing, with the Army and NDRF leading efforts to save the remaining workers.

    Navy personnel are on-site, preparing to begin their dive. Meanwhile, SDRF de-watering pumps were dispatched from Umrangshu to the site. An ONGC de-watering pump was also loaded onto an MI-17 helicopter at Kumbhigram, awaiting weather clearance for deployment.

    Assam Coal Mine Tragedy: Workers Stranded 300 Feet Below Ground in Flooded Mine

    The workers have been stranded 300 feet below ground in a flooded mine for the past two days after the Assam Coal Mine Accident. The situation remained unclear throughout the day. Some officials suggested that up to 15 workers might be trapped, while others maintained that only nine were involved.

    Rescue Efforts Underway

    Navy divers, along with Army and NDRF personnel, promptly deployed their efforts following the incident. Rescue teams entered the mine shaft. They observed helmets and slippers floating in the water, suggesting that some workers may have died. However, officials, as reported by HT, dismissed earlier claims from the state information department that three bodies had been found.

    Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma stated that the mine “appears to be illegal.” An individual has been arrested in connection with the incident. The person faces charges of culpable homicide.
