The government announced on Saturday that a highway connecting the Maharashtra districts of Chandrapur and Yavatmal now has the first 200-meter-long bamboo crash barrier in the world.
Named ‘Bahu Balli’, the bamboo crash barrier underwent “rigorous testing” at various government-run institutions like the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) in Pithampur, Indore and was rated as Class 1 during the Fire Rating Test conducted at the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) in Roorkee and it has also been accredited by the Indian Road Congress, a statement from the Nitin Gadkari-led Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said Saturday.

“An extraordinary accomplishment towards achieving #AatmanirbharBharat. It has made with the development of the world’s first 200-metre-long Bamboo Crash Barrier. It has installed on the Vani-Warora Highway,” he said.
This barrier made from the Bambusa Balcoa species of bamboo. Which has covered with recycled high-density polyethylene and treated with creosote oil (HDPE).
As a great substitute for steel and a solution to environmental issues and their aftereffects. This achievement, according to the Ministry, is significant for the bamboo sector and India as a whole.
