    Cognizant India CMD Rajesh Nambiar resigns to join Indian IT's apex body

    India’s leading technology industry association, Nasscom, has named Rajesh Nambiar as its President Designate. Nambiar will take over from Debjani Ghosh, whose tenure concludes in November 2024. Currently serving as the India CMD of global tech giant Cognizant, Nambiar will step down from his position at the end of September to assume his new role. He brings extensive experience in the IT industry, having held leadership positions at major companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, IBM, and Ciena.

    What Rajesh Nambiar said on his new role

    In his new position, Nambiar will prioritize advancing the growth and innovation of India’s tech sector, with a special emphasis on AI, talent development, and intellectual property creation. He remarked, “This is an incredibly exciting time for the industry as we steer towards becoming AI-first companies, leverage talent as our strongest competitive edge, drive growth, and boost investments in IP creation and research. I feel privileged and honored to have the opportunity to work with all stakeholders to elevate the capabilities of the Indian tech sector.”

    Rajesh Varrier to take over as Cognizant’s India head

    Cognizant has appointed Rajesh Varrier, formerly of Infosys, as its Global Head of Operations and Chairman & Managing Director for India. In this role, Varrier will oversee Cognizant’s operations and growth strategies in the region. Based in Bangalore, Varrier will serve as an executive vice president and report directly to CEO Ravi Kumar S.

    Before joining Cognizant, Varrier was EVP and head of global services at Infosys Americas and led the company’s Digital and Microsoft businesses. He also served as SVP of Digital Experience for Infosys’ Microsoft division. Prior to Infosys, Varrier was CIO and digital officer at Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance and founded the analytics firm Activecubes. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics and a master’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Mumbai.

    Ravi Kumar S remarked, “Rajesh Varrier is a distinguished and seasoned executive whose operational expertise and entrepreneurial mindset are a great fit for Cognizant. As we aim to enhance operational excellence, efficiency, and execution in our business model, this role is a key strategic position for our operations in India.”

    He added that the job of India Chair is deeply important to Cognizant culture.
