Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Pune on Thursday was called off due to heavy rains in the city, according to ANI. During the visit, the PM was set to unveil projects valued at ₹22,600 crore, including the inauguration of the Pune Metro section from District Court to Swargate, marking the completion of Phase-1 of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The underground section from District Court to Swargate alone costs approximately ₹1,810 crore.

Due to a heavy rain warning, the Pune district administration has announced the closure of schools and colleges in Pune city and Pimpri Chinchwad for Thursday. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Thane, Raigad, Mumbai, and Pune on September 26. Similar warnings have been issued for Nashik and Dhule districts in northern Maharashtra.

District Collector Suhas Divase issued this order after the India Meteorological Department warned of anticipated rainfall, lightning, and thunderstorms. On Wednesday evening, Pune had already seen heavy rain, causing water-logging in multiple locations.

The water resources department issued an alert on Wednesday, warning of heavy rains from September 24 to 29. They cautioned that additional water may be discharged from the Mutha and Pawana dams, urging people to stay alert.
