    Tesla Begins Hiring in India for EV Manufacturing, Indicating Expansion Plans Following Elon Musk-PM Modi Meeting: Report

    Tesla Inc., the renowned EV (electric vehicle) manufacturer led by billionaire Elon Musk, has taken a significant step toward entering the Indian market by initiating a hiring process. As reported by Bloomberg, the company is actively recruiting for 13 different positions, encompassing both customer-facing roles and back-end operations. This hiring effort marks a clear indication of Tesla’s intent to establish a presence in India, a market it has long considered but previously approached with caution due to high import duties and regulatory challenges.

    At least five of the positions, including that of service technician as well as various advisory roles were available in both Mumbai and Delhi, while the rest of the openings like that of customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist, were for Mumbai, the report read.

    Tesla’s Potential Entry into India Amid Slowing Global EV Sales

    The EV maker had generally stayed away from India so far due to concerns of high import duties, despite having engaged on-and-off for years.

    The EV manufacturer has largely avoided entering the Indian market due to concerns over high import duties, despite intermittent engagements over the years. While India’s EV sector is still in its early stages compared to China’s, it presents a promising opportunity for Tesla to counteract its declining sales, which have fallen annually for the first time in over a decade.

    This highlights the increasingly blurred boundaries between Musk’s business ventures and political ties. For example, Italy acknowledged discussions with Musk’s SpaceX regarding a potential agreement to supply the government with secure satellite-based telecommunications. Notably, this followed a meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and then President-elect Trump in Florida.
