Two passengers who arrived in Chennai from Dubai tested positive today. “Both passengers are from Alangudi in the Pudukottai district. “Their test samples were sent to the State Public Health Laboratory,” the Tamil Nadu Health Department stated. Previously, a woman and her six-year-old daughter who arrived in Virudhunagar from China via Sri Lanka tested positive after undergoing an RT-PCR test at Madurai airport.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, which has been reporting an average of 10 Covid cases per day, saw a slight increase in weekly cases on Tuesday, with 55 reported as opposed to 47 the previous week. Tamil Nadu had only 51 active Covid 19 cases as of Tuesday.
Assurance from Health Minister on Covid-19 Preparedness in Tamil Nadu
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the mock drill for Covid-19 preparations at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, health minister Ma Subramanian assured the public that the state had enough beds and oxygen and that there was no need for concern. The Union Health Ministry had directed all state governments to hold a mock drill on Tuesday to ensure the availability of hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, and liquid medical oxygen tanks for the uninitiated.
Subramanian stated that the Union Health Ministry had advised state health departments that government medical college hospitals, district hospitals, and taluk, and non-taluk hospitals should conduct an infrastructure assessment and report back to the state Health Department.
