Authorities arrested Ranya Rao and placed her in judicial custody for allegedly smuggling gold bars worth approximately ₹12.56 crore from Dubai. As reported by NDTV, she admitted to carrying 17 gold bars weighing 14.8 kg on her body and disclosed details of her international travels.

In her statement, she stated that she had visited Europe, America, and the Middle East, including Dubai and Saudi Arabia. She also expressed exhaustion, saying she had not gotten enough rest.

She stated that her father, KS Hegdesh, was a real estate businessman, and her husband, Jatin Hukkeri, worked as an architect. The actress also confirmed that the authorities were conducting a fair trial and that she had given her statement voluntarily. Rao mentioned that officials had offered her food while in custody, but she refused as she was not hungry.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested Kannada actress Ranya Rao at Bengaluru Airport for allegedly smuggling gold. A special court sent her to judicial custody until March 18, with her bail plea set for hearing today.
The DRI has requested three days of interrogation from March 9 to probe her possible involvement in a larger smuggling network, calling it one of the biggest gold seizures at the airport in recent years.
