Pune: CA Fatally Struck in Swargate Hit-and-Run Incident

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a vehicle that was not identified struck the bike of a 34-year-old chartered accountant at the Swargate underpass at Jedhe Chowk, resulting in his death. The driver and the car are the targets of a police search.

The dead has been named as Sagar Suresh Mantri (34), a resident of Pune’s Hadapsar locality who was originally from Ahmednagar, according to officials from the Swargate police station. Mantri worked from his office in the Bhawani Peth neighborhood and was a practicing chartered accountant.

The incident happened on Tuesday at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Senior Inspector Dilip Fulpagare, in-charge of Swargate police station said, “Mantri was riding his bike and was hit by an unidentified vehicle in the underpass at the Keshavrao Jedhe Chowk. The unidentified driver fled the scene with the vehicle.”

Passersby informed the police control room about the accident. Personnel from Swargate police station and other citizens took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Senior Inspector Fulpagare added, “We have registered an offence and have invoked provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act pertaining to hit-and-run accidents. Probe is on to identify the driver and the vehicle.”
