Following a complaint by a 32-year-old woman in Bengaluru, the police are searching for a cab driver who inundated her WhatsApp with explicit photos and videos. This happened after she canceled a ride she had booked through a ride-sharing app to transport her daughter from school to home.
“I booked the cab as my daughter was not ready to walk. Three minutes after booking it, my baby started crying.
On noticing an auto, I cancelled the cab for which I was charged Rs 60,” said the mother of a six-year-old girl and a nine-month-old infant.
Following the cancellation, her troubles began. The driver, identified as Dinesh, repeatedly called her, demanding she take the cab as he had driven 5km already and insisting that he was near her location. The woman apologised to him. “I asked him to hurry as my baby was crying. I waited for another two minutes, but didn’t find the cab on the route, so I took an autorickshaw,” she said.

Despite her explanations and apologies, the driver’s relentless calls and messages continued. This prompted the woman, a resident of an apartment in Basapura in the Electronics City neighbourhood of Bengaluru, to file a complaint with police on October 9.

The woman had a screenshot of a photo that the driver had sent her, which she had downloaded. She mentioned, “I was in tears at that point. My neighbors noticed and took my phone, reprimanding the driver. Upon being warned by my neighbors that they had saved screenshots of all the messages, the driver promptly deleted the messages and ended the call.”
The woman asked how the driver could access her number after she cancelled the trip. Cops have requested details of the driver from the aggregator. A case has been registered under IPC section 354A for sexual harassment and the IT Act.
