Delhi Police Arrest Four for Smuggling Stolen Phones to Nepal

The Delhi Police have apprehended four individuals involved in running a syndicate that dealt with stolen mobile phones. This operation involved purchasing the stolen devices from thieves and robbers in Delhi, transporting them to Bihar, and subsequently smuggling them across the border into Nepal. In Nepal, the stolen phones were sold as refurbished devices. Authorities provided this information on Monday.

Syndicate Dismantled in Multi-City Raids

The Delhi Police have identified and arrested four individuals involved in a syndicate that smuggled stolen mobile phones from Delhi to Nepal. The suspect are Arjun Tanwar, 26, his 24-year-old wife, and their associate Himanshu Kumar, 19, and Jagarnath Kumar, 28. The arrests followed raids conducted between May 19 and 29 in Delhi, Ghaziabad, and near the India-Nepal border in Bihar.

Delhi Police Seize 226 Stolen Phones in Multi-City Raids

Police reported the seizure of 226 stolen cellphones, 140 adapters, and 90 USB cables from the four suspects. This operation has resolved 53 theft cases registered in the New Delhi, southwest, north, and central police districts.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Harsha Vardhan stated that Arjun Tanwar, his wife, and Himanshu Kumar are residents of Paharganj, while Jagarnath Kumar hails from Madhubani district in Bihar. On May 19, the special staff team of the central district police received a tip-off that Tanwar, a habitual criminal, frequented Kamala Market with stolen phones. Inspector Rohit Kumar and his team set a trap, leading to the arrest of Tanwar and his wife.

“The police searched their car and found 150 cellphones, 140 adapters, and 90 USB cables packed in several cartons,” said DCP Vardhan. “Interrogation of the couple revealed their involvement in purchasing stolen cellphones, which were later smuggled and sold in Nepal. The cartons containing the phones and accessories were to be sent to Nepal via Madhubani through Himanshu.”
