The man accused of raping and murdering a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital returned home after the crime, slept for a few hours, and then washed his clothes to erase evidence, according to police reports on Sunday. Police discovered bloodstains on the shoe of the accused, a civic volunteer. Although he is not professionally connected to the hospital, he frequently visited the premises.

The body of the post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered in a seminar hall of the hospital on Friday morning. Her colleagues reported that she had gone to the hall to rest after a meal. The rape and murder occurred between 3 am and 6 am.
City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the medical facility for the second time in three days on Sunday and met with representatives of the protesting junior doctors. The officer stated, according to PTI, “After committing the crime, the accused returned to his residence and slept until late Friday morning. Upon waking, he washed the clothes he wore during the crime to eliminate evidence. During a search, bloodstains were discovered on his shoes.”

Kolkata rape-murder: What did the autopsy report say?
Per the initial autopsy report, the victim’s body was bleeding from her eyes, mouth and private parts. There were injuries to other parts of her body, including her leg, neck, hand and lips. Meanwhile, PTI reported citing a police officer that there was circumstantial evidence also indicating a possibility that the doctor was first murdered and then raped.
The police commissioner stated, “Today, one of our senior officers delivered the autopsy report to the deceased doctor’s parents. We had a productive meeting with the students, and we believe they are satisfied. In response to their request, we have removed one assistant police officer from their post.”

Additionally, the hospital authorities have expelled two security personnel from the emergency ward for failing to perform their duties.
