An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been recovered on Thursday from a suspicious bag that was spotted in Old Seemapuri area in Delhi. Bomb disposal squad, National Security Guard (NSG) and the fire department personnel are at the spot.
A large team of police personnel have been deployed in the Old Seemapuri area. The tip of the unidentified bag was received around 2:15 pm. The area was cordoned off and people in the neighbourhood were asked to vacate the space.
News agency ANI quoted sources saying, “During the Ghazipur RDX case investigation, the Special Cell got information about this house in Old Seemapuri.
When the Special Cell team reached here, this house was closed and a suspicious bag was found. The fire department and NSG were informed to reach the spot.”
When the Delhi Police Special Cell team reached the spot, the house was locked and a suspicious bag was found on road.
The investigation is underway and more details into the matter are awaited.
Earlier in January, an unclaimed bag was recovered Ghazipur Mandi metro station in Delhi. An IED was found inside the bag which was later diffused by NSG. The Delhi Police suspect Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI hand in the case.
The area has been cordoned off and senior police officials have reached the spot. A local said, “Those living in the area where the explosive has been found have been vacated. Police told us that they have come to know about tenants living in that house who are now absconding.”
In January, an IED stuffed with RDX and ammonium nitrate was found inside an unattended bag at the Ghazipur flower market here but it was later defused.
