West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday denied ever threatening the doctors protesting the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at the Kolkata medical college, dismissing BJP’s accusations. She emphasized that the claims of her threatening the junior doctors are ‘entirely false’ and affirmed the legitimacy of the doctors’ movement. On Wednesday, addressing a rally of Trinamool’s students’ wing, Banerjee urged the junior doctors at state-run hospitals, who have been on ceasework for 21 days, to return to work.

BJP Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Threatening Doctors
BJP leaders, referencing her speech, accused the Trinamool Congress chief of threatening doctors who are seeking justice for the rape and murder of a female medic at RG Kar Medical College and demanding improved working conditions. In a detailed post on X today, the Chief Minister labeled these accusations as a “malicious disinformation campaign” and insisted that she had “not said a single word against” the medical students and junior doctors.

Advocates for Change Over Revenge Amidst Slander and Propaganda
Banerjee, during Wednesday’s address at the TMC student wing’s foundation day event, also said, “I have been abused and disrespected a lot and have thought about it. I have never taken any revenge against them. I have always maintained that not revenge, but change is needed. Today, you understand what needs to be done. I don’t want unrest. I don’t believe in biting back those who spread slander, propaganda against me. But, you can call them out and scare them (phonsh kora).”
