Officials claimed on Saturday that two civilians were hurt as protesters battled with security personnel overnight in Imphal town and attempted to torch the homes of BJP leaders.
Throughout the night, automatic gunfire was recorded from Kwakta in Manipur’s Bishnupur district and Kangvai in Churachandpur district.
There was also an attempt to rob the Iringbam police station in Imphal West. No weapons, however, were taken. To prevent protesters from congregating, the Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Rapid Action Force marched together across the state capital until midnight.
