    Student Group Protests for Justice Amid Kolkata Police Allegations of Chaos Plot

    The Kolkata Police have put in place extensive security measures for the “Nabannno Abhijan” protest march scheduled for today, as there are concerns about possible violence. Nabanno, the state secretariat, is the central hub for the West Bengal Government, housing the Chief Minister’s and other high-ranking officials’ offices.

    Unregistered Student Group Organizes Protest March Demanding Justice for Rape-Murder Victim

    This protest march is being organized by an unregistered group that identifies itself as a student organization. The group’s aim is to demand justice for the 31-year-old doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College on August 9.

    The Kolkata police have reported discovering evidence of a plot aimed at inciting disruption and chaos in West Bengal by “exploiting the anger of well-intentioned citizens.According to the state police, they have learned that one of the organizers of the Nabanna Abhijan protest met with a leader of a political party at a major Five Star hotel. They also allege that there is specific intelligence indicating a conspiracy to create widespread disorder and provoke a police response.

    To manage the situation, over 6,000 police officers will be deployed, with barricades planned at 19 locations. Additionally, approximately 26 Deputy Commissioners of Police will be stationed at various points to oversee the security operations, as reported by a top official to NDTV.

    The horrific rape-murder has triggered nationwide protests from the medical community. In West Bengal, thousands of doctors have been on strike since the August 9 incident and have continued their walkout despite appeals from both the Supreme Court and the state government.
