ED raids Sujit Bose

On Friday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at the homes and workplaces of West Bengal Fire Minister Sujit Bose, Trinamool Congress MLA Tapas Roy, and former North Dum Dum municipality chairman Subodh Chakraborty. The searches were related to an alleged municipal recruitment scam.

A week prior to the raids, a mob in Sandeshkhali assaulted ED officials and ransacked their vehicles on January 5 while the officials were conducting a raid at TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikha’s residence. Three ED officers sustained injuries and had to be hospitalized.

On Friday morning, an ED team carried out raids at two residences of Bose in the Sreebhumi area. Simultaneously, another team raided Roy’s apartment and office in Bowbazar, while a third team proceeded to Chakraborty’s residence in Birati. The teams were accompanied by a substantial contingent of central force jawans. These raids were initiated by the ED in connection with a recruitment scam in various municipalities in West Bengal. Allegations suggest that individuals exchanged money for hundreds of jobs in the municipalities.

“People of Bengal know that it is only a political vendetta by the Centre and the party ruling at the Centre,” Minister for Women and Child Development Sashi Panja said.

“Once again ED is conducting raids here. This is happening through a script prepared by the BJP. The BJP cannot fight us politically. That is why they have given a list of our leaders to central agencies and asked them to harass the leaders,” said Kunal Ghosh, TMC state secretary and spokesperson.
