Convict Sanjoy Roy’s quantum of punishment to be pronounced at 2.45 pm

The Sealdaha Court proceedings were adjourned until 2:45 pm on Monday to announce the verdict in the Kolkata RG Kar doctor rape and murder case. As the sentencing of convict Sanjoy Roy took place on Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) urged the court to impose the death penalty. During the hearing, the CBI referred to Supreme Court guidelines on awarding the death penalty and emphasized the severity of the crime. The victim was a young doctor who had been on duty for 36 hours. The CBI described the crime as one of the “rarest of rare” cases, noting that the victim had been in the hospital to assist patients. The CBI argued that the crime was so serious that it warranted the death penalty, aiming to set a precedent and restore public confidence in society.
