Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped harm on Wednesday when a man fired a shot at him while he was performing his ‘sewadar’ duties outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab. The police quickly responded to the situation.
The shooter, named Narain Singh Chaura, missed his target and was subdued by several bystanders.
Video footage revealed the shooter approaching Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was seated in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, and drawing a gun from his pocket. A bystander quickly stepped in, seizing the attacker’s hands. During the scuffle, a bullet struck the wall behind Badal, but he emerged unharmed.
CM Mann Comments Punjab Police for Quick Response
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated in response to the incident on X, “The Punjab Police prevented a major incident today. Thanks to their quick action, the plot to tarnish the image of Punjab and Punjabis has been thwarted.”
CM Mann said, “The police successfully arrested the attacker on the spot. I commend their swift action and strongly condemn the attack on Sukhbir Badal. I have given strict orders to the police to investigate the incident and provide a report immediately.”
