Cops said they found the suspect, Rakesh, “sitting nervously at a roadside” in northwest Delhi’s Burari area on Monday.

The accused, a driver who earlier lived in the same house in West Sant Nagar before being evicted, was arrested from the locality after confessing to committing the murder by “strangulation and electrocution”, when cops patrolling the area found him in a suspicious state and confronted him.

The woman, identified as Pinki, was the wife of an assistant professor at Delhi University.

Thereafter, a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC was registered at Burari police station and Rakesh was arrested, he said.

During interrogation, Rakesh told police that he had met Virender Kumar, who works as an ad-hoc assistant professor in Delhi University.

During the interrogation, the accused told police that Virender Kumar, Ms Pinki’s husband, had allowed him to stay on the top floor of his house around three years ago.

The victim and the assistant professor at DU’s Ramjas College got married in February.

    Reason Behind The Professor’s Wife’s Murder :

Police said the driver killed the woman because he had a grudge against her over several reasons. He said he was upset, according to the police, because the woman had evicted him and his family from the house.

The accused also claimed he was enraged because the DU teacher hadn’t been clearing some payments due to him.

She allegedly asked him return a Wagon R taxi that he was using to earn his livelihood.

Victim was also refusing to pay her husband Rakesh’s full salary, which was around Rs 3 lakh.
