Two people arrested in South Mumbai for tampering with ATMs

    Tampering with ATM

Two people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly tampering with an automated teller machine (ATM) in south Mumbai with the goal of stealing money, according to a police official.

According to him, their objective was to keep the flap tightly shut even after the ATM issued cash so that they could open it and steal the money after people left the kiosk thinking something was wrong with the machine.

According to the official, the business monitoring the ATM received an alert after it was tampered with and notified the police.

Police gathered CCTV footage from the ATM and initiated a hunt for the two, who were discovered in the same area.

One of the accused hails from Kolkata, while the other is from Gaya in Bihar. They would do a recce of the ATM before attempting to tamper it, the official said.

A case has been registered against the two under Indian Penal Code sections, including 380 (theft in dwelling house), the official added.
